Privacy policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information Mortgage Ledger (mortgageledger.org, “we,” “us”) collects when you visit this site, why, and what choices you have. The site is operated by Dominic Wu, contactable at pacificledgerstudio@gmail.com.
The calculators themselves collect nothing. Every figure you type into a calculator on this site — loan amount, rate, term, income, debts, rent, extra payments — is processed entirely inside your own browser by JavaScript running on your device. None of it is transmitted to us, logged, or stored anywhere. Closing or refreshing the page erases it. We never see it.
1. Information collected automatically by hosting
Like effectively every website, this site is served by a web host that automatically records technical information about requests it receives. These server logs typically include your IP address, the date and time of the request, the page or file requested, the HTTP status returned, your browser's user-agent string, and the referring URL.
These logs are generated by the hosting infrastructure for security, abuse prevention, troubleshooting, and traffic measurement. They are not used to build a marketing profile of you, and we do not attempt to identify you from them. They are retained only for as long as the host retains them for those operational purposes and are then discarded.
2. Cookies and similar technologies
Mortgage Ledger does not set its own tracking cookies. The site does not use cookies to identify you, follow you between visits, or build a profile. There is no login, no account, and no persistent identifier set by us.
Cookies and similar technologies (local storage, pixels, device identifiers) may be set by third parties whose services appear on this site — see the advertising section below. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google's servers and Google receives your IP address as a necessary part of serving the font files.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Blocking third-party cookies will not stop the calculators from working, because they do not depend on cookies.
3. Analytics
Mortgage Ledger does not currently run a third-party analytics package such as Google Analytics. Traffic is understood, to the extent it is understood at all, from the hosting logs described above.
If privacy-respecting analytics are introduced in future, this section will be updated before they are deployed, the provider will be named here, and the effective date at the top of this page will change.
4. Information you send us through the contact form
If you use the contact form or email us, we receive what you choose to send: your name, your email address, the topic you selected, and your message. This is used for exactly one purpose — to read your message and reply to it.
- It is not sold, rented, shared for advertising, or used to build a profile.
- It is not added to a mailing list. We do not operate one.
- Where the form is processed by a third-party form-handling service, that service transmits the message to us and acts on our behalf; it does not use the content of your message for its own advertising purposes.
- Messages are retained only as long as needed to resolve the matter and, where the message reported an error, to keep a record of the correction. They are then deleted.
Please do not send sensitive information. Do not include your Social Security number, date of birth, bank or loan account numbers, credit-card details, login credentials, or copies of loan documents, tax returns, or pay stubs. The form is not a secure channel and we have no need for any of it. Messages containing such data will be deleted.
5. Third-party advertising
No advertising is currently being served on this site.
Mortgage Ledger may use third-party advertising services, including Google AdSense, after approval. This section describes what would apply if and when that happens, so that you know in advance. It will be updated, and the revision date above changed, at the point any advertising actually goes live.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies — including the DoubleClick cookie — would enable it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- Personalized advertising uses that information to select ads it judges relevant to you. Non-personalized advertising is targeted using contextual information such as the content of the page and your approximate (typically coarse, region-level) location, rather than your prior browsing behavior; non-personalized ads still use cookies or similar technologies for frequency capping, aggregated reporting, and fraud prevention.
- Third-party ad networks may also use cookies, web beacons, or similar technologies to measure ad performance. We do not control, and are not responsible for, those third parties' privacy practices.
Your advertising opt-outs
- You can opt out of personalized advertising by Google at Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising from many participating vendors at optout.aboutads.info (Digital Advertising Alliance) and optout.networkadvertising.org (Network Advertising Initiative).
- Google explains how it uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
- You can also block third-party cookies in your browser, or use a browser that blocks them by default.
6. Data retention
- Calculator inputs: never transmitted, never retained. They exist only in your browser's memory until you close or refresh the page.
- Contact messages: kept only as long as needed to handle your message and to maintain a record of any correction it caused, then deleted.
- Hosting logs: retained by the host for a limited operational period for security and troubleshooting, then discarded.
- Third-party advertising data (if advertising is introduced) is retained by those third parties under their own policies and retention schedules, not ours.
7. Security
The site is served over HTTPS, so traffic between your browser and the site is encrypted in transit. The site has no user accounts, no login, and no database of personal information, which means there is very little personal data here to compromise in the first place — the strongest privacy protection this site offers is simply not collecting things.
No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. That is precisely why the contact form asks you not to send sensitive financial information.
8. Children's privacy
This site is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us at pacificledgerstudio@gmail.com and it will be deleted.
9. Your privacy rights
Because this site does not maintain accounts or a database of personal information, in most cases we simply hold nothing about you beyond any message you have chosen to send us.
Residents of California and other US states with comprehensive privacy laws (including Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, and others as those laws take effect) may have the right to request access to the personal information a business holds about them, to request its deletion or correction, to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information or its use for targeted advertising, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising in exchange for money.
- Note that under some state laws the use of third-party advertising cookies can itself constitute “sharing” for targeted advertising. If advertising is introduced on this site, you can exercise the corresponding opt-out using the advertising controls in section 5, and by enabling a recognized opt-out preference signal such as Global Privacy Control (GPC) in your browser.
- To make any request, email pacificledgerstudio@gmail.com. We will respond within the time required by the applicable law.
Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland: this site is operated from the United States and is directed at a US audience. If you access it from the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, note that any data processed (server logs; any message you send us; requests made by your browser to Google Fonts and, if advertising is introduced, to advertising vendors) may be processed in the United States. Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies to processing we carry out, our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in operating, securing, and maintaining the site and in responding to messages you choose to send us; where consent is required — in particular for non-essential advertising cookies — it will be sought before such cookies are set. You may have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, and portability, and a right to complain to your supervisory authority. To exercise any of these, write to pacificledgerstudio@gmail.com.
10. Changes to this policy
If how this site handles data changes — for example if analytics are added, or if advertising is approved and begins serving — this page will be updated before or at the time the change takes effect, and the effective and revision dates at the top will be changed accordingly. Material changes will be described plainly rather than buried.
11. Contact
Privacy questions, requests, and complaints: pacificledgerstudio@gmail.com, or via the contact page.
